Richard E. Strange

Dr. Richard E. Strange received degrees from Wichita University, the University of Colorado, and Boston University (a DMA in Performance). In Boston, he studied flute with George Madsen and clarinet with Pasquale Cardillo, both members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He served as Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Arizona State University for twenty-five years and was later honored with the title of Director of Bands Emeritus.

Active in the community orchestra field, Dr. Strange was the Music Director and conductor of the Tempe Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years. He conducted, judged and presented clinics in Austria, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Guam, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Dr. Strange served as the President of the American Bandmasters Association and Executive Director of the American Bandmasters Association Foundation. He also served as President of the College Band Directors National Association.
